Chelsea played away to Porto in their first leg of the Quarter Finals in the UEFA Champions League. Everyone said Chelsea got an easy draw but watching how Porto played, you can say they came to prove a point even though Chelsea's clinical nature played a huge part in the victory.
Porto showed their intent when Zaidu Sanusi miskicked when he was just inside the box so early on in the 14th minute after being played in by Otávio. A missed change it was and the frustration was evident from the coach.
Chelsea punished Porto's missed chance in the 32nd minute when Jorginho brilliantly found Mount at the edge of the box. Mount lost his marker with a brilliant turn and unleashed a lovely low drive shot into the far bottom corner of the net to give Chelsea the first goal and the crucial away goal. I felt the goalkeeper should have done better there but you can't take away from the brilliant effort from Mason Mount. He lost his marker expertly.
Azpilicueta denied Porto in the 42nd minute when Corona's shot was blocked off for a corner when it was goal-bound. Warner also missed another wonderful header in the 46th minute. He couldn't keep his header down when perfectly found by Mason Mount in the box. That should have been the second goal for Chelsea but Porto got off the hook there.
Marega wasted a golden chance when he was brilliantly played through in the 51st minute. The ball was played ahead of him for a low drive past, he managed to get to it beating Rudiger to the ball but Mendy was quick to react and blocked it off for a corner kick. What a timely intervention by Mendy to deny Marega. He should have chipped it.
Luis Diaz also lost another of Porto's chance in the 56th minute. His low curling effort just missed going into the back of the net by a tiny margin. They are doing everything right but they have just been unlucky with their efforts. Marega had another low shot which wasn't much of a threat to Mendy in the 69th minute. He turned and took a snap shot but Mendy was equal to it.
Chelsea put the game beyond all doubt when Jorginho tried to find Chilwell. Corona was there and he controlled the ball while Chilwell snatched it. Chilwell ran into the box, beat the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the empty net while Pepe watched helplessly to make it 2-0 in favour of Chelsea.
The first leg is done and Chelsea is costing to the semi-final barring any upset from Porto for the second leg.
